Not at all. Plenty of guests arrive with nothing more than a mood — somewhere quiet, somewhere lively, somewhere the children can jump off things — and the captain builds the day from that and the morning’s weather. It is one of the more pleasant ways to spend eight hours.
Constantly, and most people do. The boat is yours for the day, so a lunch plan can become a longer swim, and a quiet anchorage can become a run west because the sea flattened out. The captain will tell you what the water allows and the rest is your call.
The rate is the same — it is for the boat and her captain, whatever shape the day takes. Fuel is the only part that moves, and a day spent mostly at anchor burns very little of it, so an unhurried day often costs less overall than a fast run west.
That is the usual shape of it: a swim, a long lunch, an hour of nobody speaking, then music for the run home. Loud, quiet, spent in the water, spent listening to the captain on the coast — they are moods rather than packages, and no day has ever been only one of them.
