Èze village hangs four hundred metres above the water, a medieval knot of stone on a crag — and the mile of coast beneath it is the most dramatic run we make. Everyone photographs the view down from the Jardin Exotique. From the deck you get the shot almost nobody has: the whole cliff face at once, village on top, sea at your back.
Timings are from her berth at Beaulieu-sur-Mer. Staying closer? We bring her to you — and it is simply a boat day in Èze instead.
The Basse Corniche, the Moyenne, the Grande — the three famous coast roads stack up this hillside like theatre balconies, and from the water you see the whole auditorium at once: trains threading the shoreline, villas terraced into rock, Cap Estel’s private peninsula, and the village impossibly on top. This is the stretch where guests stop talking and start filming.
Èze-sur-Mer, the beach settlement below the village, hides one of the coast’s best boat lunches: Anjuna, barefoot-chic on the sand, reachable by tender with a table booked ahead. Swim before, laze after, and let Monaco — five minutes further east — decide whether it gets your afternoon.
If the medieval village is on your list, do it the civilised way round: visit by car or taxi in the cool of the morning or evening on another day, and keep the boat day for the perspective the crowds queuing at the Jardin Exotique will never get. The two views of Èze — down from the cactus garden, up from the water — are both worth having. Only one comes with a swim.

A green-water cove ringed by cliffs at Cap d’Ail, guarded from crowds by a staircase of 150-odd steps.
From the water it is a five-minute anchor-and-swim between Monaco and home — no steps involved, which the people on the steps notice.

from the log
The village is a 400-metre climb from the sea, so not practically from the boat — we drop anchor below and the view up is the boat’s version. Most guests pair a charter day with a separate morning visit to the village; we are happy to advise on timing to beat the coach crowds.
If barefoot linen-tablecloth lunches are your idea of the Riviera, very much — it is one of the few genuine beach-club lunches on this stretch, and arriving by boat is exactly how it is meant to be done. We book ahead; summer tables go early.
