The daytime party: Pampelonne
The afternoon is Pampelonne’s: Nikki Beach for the full champagne-spray spectacle, Bagatelle for tables that turn into dancefloors by four, Verde for the sleeker version of the same idea, and Shellona’s Greek-island afternoons over in the Baie des Canoubiers. Every one of them receives its best guests by pontoon — you arrive dry-shod from your own boat while the car park queues in the heat — and every one of them should be booked when the charter is. The night: the town takes over
When the sand empties, the port fills. Dinner slides into theatre at L’Opéra on the quay or Gaïo’s supper-club room, and then there is Les Caves du Roy beneath the Byblos — still, after half a century, the most famous nightclub on any coast, where the champagne parade is a spectator sport in itself. In between, the Sénéquier terrace serves the classic nightcap: red chairs, port lights, the yachts breathing at their lines a few metres away.
